Puddles.

Been under the weather as of late. Few days ago, hours before I caught the bug, I headed out with my friend, Mary to shoot a little. Prior to that day, I had a somewhat haunting dream about this place which involved sideway elevators, an abandoned lot and a ghostly encounter. It was good though that the place was nothing like my dream. It had rained, so puddles became my best friend. I even fit in my panel project.

Panel from Long Bien.

It seems I forgot to upload this previously. Shot this panel from Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi. I have to say I was very uneasy walking the bridge. Thousands of motorcycles cross this bridge everyday, and it wasn't the rumble beneath my feet that terrified me. It was more so the concrete slabs on which we walked on that had gaps between each slab, gaps that allowed you to see what was beneath the bridge, which was basically a far drop below. It's possible I have issues with heights but more so when the fear is of the ground giving way. So anyway, I was anxious and nervous and at first didn't want to walk far into the middle of the bridge which would be over the river. But inner arguments had me debating that I would never come back here again and so I should bloody do it and shoot a panel or two.

The panel above was shot with the iphone.

The Panel Project

I like walking through the aisles of Art Friend. Usually, I am always there for something specific to buy, but I'd always get distracted with the endless possibilities of other things. I try to experiment with different mediums, I try to express my certain styles with different executions. I believe those two lines are pretty much the same thing. But moving on...

I have been working on my stencil project for awhile now. Using papercut stencils of texts and holding them up to immediate surroundings as a backdrop to evoke some kind of meaning into sometimes otherwise surroundings that we tend to naturally take for granted. Cut by hand, and then shot with a camera.  So anyway... it has now ventured into something else. I hadn't strayed far, but whilst stencils reveal whats behind the void, It is now the Panel Project that becomes a part of the surroundings, somewhat. Using glass paint on acrylic. I didn't use glass as I will be traveling with these and would be too fragile if it were.

These are tryouts that I posted on Instagram. Still much to prep for the Hanoi trip. Its two days away and I'm getting very excited.

From the sketchbook.

I have a Hanoi trip coming up, I don't know what compelled me to pick Vietnam when initially I wanted to go to Phnom Penh. I am looking forward to purely explore and shoot and thought that I should revive my stencil project once again since I've been unintentionally neglecting it for awhile. So here are a some intended stencils.

April

I haven't been progressively crafty for some weeks now. Not entirely though, I attempted string art, but I'm just not to proud of it to post a photo, let alone take one. Maybe if I found a better wood base.

I did start working with ash veneer though. I've always loved the grain that shows. And so I painted on those.

In between falling sick with cold and cough twice in a month and doing non-personal work, I did managed to work on a little hand lettering.

And that's been all so far.

2013 Quote A Month Calendars

I finally got them done. I had been meaning to do a calendar since last year and this year I almost forgot. I stressed over it the past few weeks, thinking first how to do it. At one point, I almost thought of giving up, but I was probably tired and worked on it another day.

Each month is accompanied with a hand drawn quote, which is then scanned. Wrote out the days and dates as well. Scanned them too. Went through a couple of trials with different types of paper and now,  it is done. I produced a limited quantity and shall see how it goes.

Calendar available here.

Postcard Stencil Project

Two weeks ago, I headed out to the Central Business District to work on my new stencil project. WISH YOU WERE HERE will be an ongoing piece I'll be working with. Below are shots that were taken by Djohan who was assisting me that day. :)

stencil project. May 4-6 2012 in KL.

It was one of those ideas that kinda pop in your head. I'd been working with text and typo for awhile now and while there are possibly many different ways to execute it, it didn't really take off until I thought about this one. With the help of a colleague's plotting machine, I was able to have these cut out in the quickest time when I didn't have the luxury of free time and plus I had been sick twice within in a short period of time.

KL was always that quick "get away" place. A place that was foreign yet familiar to me. It was a great 3 days away, mostly knowing that all my work back home was complete and I had nothing else to worry about and so it truly was a holiday.

The work below served as a the backdrop to the previous stencil photo.

We got ourselves markers and spray paints and while I intended them for canvas, I couldn't help but try it out and discover what "tagging" felt like. I felt silly. Maybe, it would've been better had I been tagging my old name, quietcore.

One more for the road.

Created a new Marchtwelve design for tshirts that will be for sale during the show this weekend. They had asked us for our old designs but those were made ten years ago and I no longer had the files. They will come in extra small to extra large. Not sure of the pricing yet though. But if you want one, let me know.

Details for the show is as follows.

Wake Me Up Music, Singapore's premium indie record label, is taking a long long nap after more than a decade of contribution to the Singaporean music scene.

Before we take that nap, let's bring back the old times and have one hell of a party!

The two-day show will feature current and past Wake Me Up Music bands and also other bands who have been such great friends to us.

This will probably be the LAST TIME you'll see bands like Surreal, Sky in Euphoria, Vertical Rush, Marchtwelve, My Squared Circle and Pension State come together for a show like this.

So do come down and party with us for one last time.

Sticker project

I've been bitten by the creative bug that lately I've had an insane urge to create. The itch had to be scratched. And I decided to do a personal sticker project. Using lines of encouragement or confessions, whichever I felt could relate to me in a way cos I take pride in being "personal". I made enough stickers to start my very own sticker party(not!), and went on to spread these words around. I am still in the process of making more. I've been thinking of a new series of posters as well and I just might have them painted on canvas as I still have plenty untouched from my last purchase from a closing down sale. I like this creative streak and I hope it lasts longer.

Til the next update...

Don't you just hate when no-show socks keep rolling down your feet when you walk.

"I think no show socks are pointless especially when they don't show up."
